It has been awhile since the last newsletter, and we apologize. New Officers:
- The Auxiliary has two new officers, Liz Peerboom, secretary and Connie Smith, historian. The Post has new officers also, Randy Smith, Finance Officer, and Harry Begovich, Adjutant. The SAL also has new officers: George Woods. We want to take this time to thank Donnita Kennedy, Jill Smith, Dr. John and Gene Bellinger for all their work while on the boards.
- As you know, Poppy Days was held in May. Despite the inclement weather on May 15, May 16 turned out to be a nice day and we had an excellent year. Thank you to everyone that helped, Auxiliary, Post, SAL, ALR’s and social members. We also received help from the Wright Elementary Daisy Girl Scouts and the DeKalb Girls Basketball Team. Thank you to everyone for a successful Poppy Campaign.
- The new 2010 membership cards are in. Remember the Auxiliary dues are now $20 per year. Notices will be sent out in September, but you may mail your 2010 dues to Doris Grubbs at 122 ½ Cotton Avenue, DeKalb any time or drop them off at the American Legion Post at 1204 S. 4th Street.
- In June we held a benefit for John Barth’s Family which included a pork chop dinner. We want to thank the Karaoke people (Brian, Dana and Amy), Greg Sullivan for running a special raffle game, we had various raffles throughout the day and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves with good food, good time and good friends. Everyone involved did an excellent job and it takes ALL of us to make things happen, so THANK YOU to everyone that bought tickets, took chances on raffles, donated raffle items and to all the local businesses that so generously donated items or monetary donations. A special thank you to Larry, Michele, Liz and Steve for an excellent job on cooking and serving the 146 dinners. So we don’t leave out any names we just want to thank everyone that helped in any way with set up, clean up, sold pork chop tickets, sold raffle tickets, solicited raffle items. We would also like to thank Johnson Seat and Canvas Shop for the tent and Rick White for his tent, American Legion Canteen (John, Regina, Becky and Aimee) for all of their hard work and donations, DeKalb Moose and VFW for loaning us tables and chairs and a big thanks to John and Rick White for getting the storage unit ready in time for the benefit (it is nice to have available). The storage area now has electricity thanks to Phil.
- Upcoming Events: Jeopardy Night – with a representative from each unit of The American Legion as contestants. Check the webpage for further information when available.
